Brake line conversion G7
How to change your brake lines, for both stock and aftermarket hoses.
Please read the whole post prior to attempting this yourself!
Time;
- About 30mins per corner if not experienced.
Tools;
- 8mm socket
- 8mm spanner
- 14mm socket
- Jam far, 2 of
- Brake fluid to suite
- screwdriver
- small hammer
Guide;
STEP 1
First thing to do is to insure your brake fluid is up to the maximum or above as you will drain from the pot. Once checked insure you have the lid closed and a full seal to create a vacuum and to stop the fluid escaping when you disconnect the pipe.
Take off the wheel and insure the car is safely supported, Have the jam jar near you. Undo the hydraulic joint using your 8mm spanner, this may be tight be be careful and insure the pipe is not turning with the joint.
STEP 2
Now that you have undone the joint it is now time to remove the pipe from the secured location, to do this use the screwdriver and prise the clip out, be careful as you will need to re-use this later.
STEP 3
Now you have released the pipe try and keep it in the position and remove the support further down the pipe, you will need the 14mm socket for this, just undo and lift and this will be released, now take the pipe end and place this in the jar to catch any fluid that comes out.
STEP 4
On the rear of the caliper remove the banjo using the 14mm socket or spanner, it is best to turn the steering towards you, Once undone you may get some fluid come out! catch this with your jar and put the other end into the jar so the loop is closed.
STEP 5
Take your new pipe and connect it to the top hydraulic joint, make sure the pipes don't turn...
STEP 6
Take the clip you removed in step 2 and push this back in, you may require a hammer to get this back in
STEP 7
Connect the centre mount, you may need to move the pipe through the hole so you do not get a pull when steering (please check this!)
STEP 8
Connect you banjo back on to the caliper! ensure you use the two copper washers, make sure this is very tight.
STEP 9
Bleed you brakes, Be careful and you will need two people! the way I will suggest will not cost you anything! use a very clean jam jar here.
- brake the seam on the bleed valve using the 8mm socket! only a small turn and then lock back up.
- Add someone to the car, do NOT touch the brake peddle.
- NOTE (you must tell the user to push on and off slowly) When requested.
- Using your 10mm spanner place this on the bleed valve and give it 1/4 of a turn, tell the member in the car to push the peddle down (DO NOT LIFT OFF THE PEDDLE) some fluid will come out here, make sure you catch this with the jar (this is waste fluid) now LOCK the bleed back, at this point the member can lift there foot off the brake. Keep doing this until you get a full stream of fluid coming out with no air. you must tell the user to push on and off slowly)
- it should take about 5 pumps, but you must ensure you lock the bleed before you lift the peddle, make sure you take your time.
- insure your brake fluid does not run less than minimum so check after every 2 pumps.
- Top up as required.

This is the same for all 4 corners, You can start at any corner you wish it makes no difference, if you are not competent then do not attempt this, even though it is very easy.

- Do not attempt to drink or sniff fluids, brake fluid will blacken your hands and will damage your paint if contact is made.
