Quad Sidelight Conversion

This Mod will put an additional set of Sidelight bulbs/LED’s into your High beam light housing.

What you’ll need:

x4 360 degree white 9 LED’s (501 fitment) x2 extra sidelight bulb holders (or any 501 bulb holder) extra wiring soldering iron with solder Electrical tape Silicone sealant x2 Choc Block’s Drill with different sized bits A round file Cable ties

Good weather!

Method:

First of all it’s best to disconnect the battery and clean the area you’ll be working in. In fact I took the battery out so I had more space to work in.

Next cut the existing sidelight wires, leaving enough on both end to work with (beware the wires are quite short to begin with!).

This is where you’ll need to make up a short loom with the extra wiring and the extra bulb holders (see fig 1). Be sure to measure out the length needed and add some slack, you can always cable tie later on.

Once you have soldered the loom up (one for each side) you’ll want to connect the loom to the original wires with the choc block, this can be a bit fiddly as the wires are quite short.

Put the battery back in and check all is well, remember the LED’s need to be in the right way or they wont light up so just turn them round if that happens.

Cool now they work so turn them off, disconnect the battery again, and remove the high beam bulbs from the holders, this is when we start drilling!

Get an idea of placement, take into account the bonnet, and bonnet support bar. I found to the outside of the top and angled in the way was best (see fig 2 + 3)

So start drilling with a small drill bit and work your way up to a large one, I had to move onto a file to make the hole large enough for the bulb holder. I haven’t found a way to get rid of the dust inside the housing but it’s not too bad.

Once the hole is big enough tidy up, replace the bulbs, and battery and check everything is working still. Then use the silicon sealant to seal the bulb holders in place. Cable tie the loose wires in place.

The silicone takes a while to harden up so you’ll probably need to find a way to hold them in place for a while.

Wait till dark and marvel at your achievement!
