The change of your auxilary belt should stop the squealing that many celica owners experience.

Tools required:

Small screwdriver or bradel 19mm socket and ratchet Bar to fit over the ratchet

Time to complete:

Took me 15mins but you could do it quite easily in less than an hour.

First thing to do is to measure the new belt to make sure that it's the right one.

VVTLi- 1940mm around the circumference 20mm wide

I used a contitech belt part No. 6PK-1940 from my local motorist centre.

You then need to take out the 5 retaining clips that hold on the plastic cover. I think this is done by pressing the inner pin down with the bradel about 5mm and then the clip can be pulled out.

And then remove the plastic cover.

You then need to locate the pre tensioner.

Make a sketch of how the belt winds around the pulleys so you can remember when you put the new belt on.

And then locate the 19mm nut on the pre-tensioner that you will use to pivot it. to release the tension so you can remove the belt.

Put a 19mm socket on the nut.

Move the socket in a clockwise direction to release the tension, and slip the belt off the pre-tensioner pulley.

I used a bar on the end of my socket to help with the leverage.

Remove the socket.

Take the belt off the pulleys. I found it easier to start a the front (the alternator) and then take it off the others.

Fit your new belt.

I found it easiest in this order: Starting by putting it on the furthest pulley back (crank),then around the a/c pump pulley then around the idler pulleys and finally round the alternator pulley.

Put you socket back on to the pre-tensioner and release the tension, enough for you to slip the belt on.

Check that the belt is aligned in the grooves on all the pulleys correctly.

Remove socket.

Start engine to make sure that it's aligned ok and the noise has gone.

Put the plastic cover back on. the clips for this have to be dismantled-remove the pin completely. put the clips back in the holes and then put the pins back into the clips to lock them in place.
