Timing Belt Replacement (Alt. & P/S Belt Removed):

  • Support engine
  • Remove Engine mounting Bracket
  • Remove Alternator
  • Remove timing belt upper cover
  • Turn crankshaft clockwise to TDC on Cyl. 1 ensure timing marks are aligned (2) & (3)
  • Loosen crankshaft pulley bolt (6) but do not remove
  • Remove tensioner unit (5)
  • Remove timing belt from cam shaft sprockets
  • Prevent crankshaft from turning whilst removing crankshaft pulley bolt
  • Remove crankshaft pulley (7)
  • Remove timing belt lower cover
  • Remove crankshaft sprocket guide washer (9)
  • Remove Timing Belt
  • Remove tensioner pulley bolt (10)
  • Remove tensioner pulley (11)

  • Check tensioner pulley for smooth operation if its notchy or ceased replace with new unit
  • Fit tensioner pulley, apply locking compound to bolt threads, avoiding leading threads, and tighten to 43 Nm (31.7 Lb-Ft)
  • Fit new timing belt in ANTI-CLOCKWISE direction whilst ensuring belt is taut between sprockets
  • Refit crankshaft guide washer
  • Refit timing belt lower cover
  • Refit crankshaft pulley and retaining bolt to prevent pully slipping off.
  • Ensure timing marks are aligned (2) & (3)
  • Check tensioner body for leakage or damage and replace if necessary
  • Check pushrod does not move when pushed against a firm surface if pushrod moves replace unit
  • Check push rod protrusion is10-11mm (12) if not replace unit
  • Slowly compress push rod into tensioner body until holes aligned. Use vice or press
  • Retain pushrod with 1.27mm allen key through hole in tensioner body (13)
  • Install tensioner Unit (5)
  • Tighten tensioner unit bolts (4) to 21Nm (15.5 Lb-Ft)
  • Turn tensioner pully bolt ANTI-CLOCKWISE with a torque of 69Nm (50.9Lb-Ft) (14)
  • Remove allen key from tensioner body to release pushrod (13)
  • Remove torque wrench(14)
  • Turn crankshaft 2 turns CLOCKWISE to TDC Cyl.1 ensure alignment of timing marks (2) & (3). If not aligned repeat installation and tensioning points (pain in the arse I know but if you take your time first time round then it should be spot on)
  • Install remaining components in reverse order of removal
  • Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt (6) to 108Nm (79.7 Lb-Ft)
